Bringing the enemies to life
Hello, this is BJ again. I hope everyone has been enjoying Beta Breakers since its release. I wanted to discuss what I did for the melee enemy during the game's development. For the first half of the project, I focused on creating the model for the robot. To complement our PlayStation 2/stylized art style, I chose to make the model simplistic, allowing me to concentrate on bringing the textures to life through shaders. The main focus is on the electricity that can be seen flowing through the joints, conveying a sense of how the robot is being powered. Another way to show how they were alive was through the head's screen, which changes colors to show how much health the robot has left, as well as blinking in and out to show a sort of "breathing" effect. These effects culminate into showing how the robot is alive outside of just having the animations moving it around. So, with that, I hope going through the process helped with understanding how I wanted to make the robot feel like it was alive.
